Science of Spin®

The program consists of an entertaining and educational assembly; (approximately 1 hour).

The first half of the assembly, suitable for all ages, is titled Spinning Fun and Safety. The second segment, suitable for students grade 3 and up, is the Science of Spin. Using multiple demonstrations and class participation, students are introduced to the concepts of gyroscopic stability, rotational inertia, planes of spin, distribution of mass, levers and friction.

The NO FEE option

Schools obligation is to provide for sale of yo-yos/spin tops through the P.T.A. or other school department and allow practice during recess periods and/or P.E. classes for a minimum of one week.

Sales - It is not necessary for a student to buy anything. However, Yo-Yos/Spin Tops of the type used in the demonstrations will be made available for purchase for the five school days following the program. These guaranteed products sell for $6.00 for the standard models and $12.00 for the amazing, ball bearing models. Whoever handles the sale will receive 10% of the total.

Practice at recess - Yo-Yoing/Spin Top is a great recess activity. Safety and appropriate use are stressed in both the assembly and the class instructions. When students are given their own “Spinning Zone” for practice, there are no problems. The students enjoy building their skills and teaching their classmates. If desired, we will also loan the P.E. teacher an instructional video and a class set of Yo-Yos/Spin Tops. Two P.E. days of instruction per class can be substituted for the recess play if desired.
